As we enter another fair season, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services would like to remind you that we are here to assist with any ride related concerns, before, during, or after your events.
Our inspectors are typically scheduled to arrive several days prior to opening and will work diligently to inspect amusement rides up until the fair opens to the public. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and successful season.
Per Florida Statute 616.242, ride owners/managers are required to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to:
• Conducting daily ride inspections;
• Ensuring all ride operators and staff are properly trained;
• Reporting any ride related accident in which a patron seeks medical attention at a hospital or urgent care center; and
• Reporting any mechanical, structural, or electrical defect that may impact patron safety
In addition, department monitors may be scheduled to attend your fair to observe ride operations throughout the event. These monitors are tasked with ensuring safe practices and verifying that operators are following manufacturer guidelines. If a violation is observed, the monitor will speak with management and allow for employee retraining as appropriate. All monitors will be clearly identifiable in state issued attire.
The Department is committed to supporting your efforts and ensuring your fair is both safe and successful. If there is anything we can do to assist, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
